R is for railway cars

It leaves the city every day about five o'clock in the evening, the train for Mariposa.

Why,  you knew that train at one time better, I suppose, than any other single thing in the city, and loved it too for the little town in the sunshine that it ran to.

The Ossawippi Express Dining Cars (sadly, now closed) is made up of several attached 
old railway cars and named for Stephen Leacock's

Perished

Until this Celtic Cross was erected in 1998 in a newly named An Gorta Mor Park in Kingston Ontario, there were no memorials to acknowledge the 1,500 who perished in Kingston after escaping the Great Irish Famine. Across the water is the wind farm of Wolfe Island where thousands of birds perish annually.

I passed by this pub during a walking break on my way home from Ottawa and then later, by a perhaps not so great co-incidence, though it seemed so at the time, I saw this guy down by the river.


















Even though I did not stop at the pub for a 'quick half' I could not get a non-blurry shot of this pileated woodpecker.
