The sign from the old marquee of the Revue Cinema on Roncesvalles. The theatre is celebrating 100 years though this art deco sign was added later. While the fate of this much loved cinema was still up in the air, a heavy snow storm caused the marquee to crash down in 2007, but the lettered sign was saved. One is on display here along with the original seats.
The theatre has been completely refurbished by the community (mostly volunteers!)
and here is how the cinema looks today.

I didn't know they had part of the old sign inside - that's great.
the other side is in the back behind the screen. I think this may have been out just for the Door Open. I think it should be mounted inside somewhere.
Sometimes "out with the old and in with the new" doesn't necessarily mean a good thing. I'm glad they kept the old style lettering both outside AND the original letters.
I'm glad the sign was not destroyed in the snow storm. It definitely should be mounted inside the refurbished theatre. What a wonderful piece of history.
good job to the volunteer brigade who used elbow grease to refurbish this wonderful cinema/theater.
A century! It's great that volunteers worked together to refurbish this theatre.
I remember hearing about this. I was never in the Revue, but I did frequent The Bloor quite often back in the day.
Interesting history.
even the font is vintage looking. i love this building, and the idea that the community went together to refurbish it is wonderful. what a nice contribution to the meme this week. genie
Did you visit this during Doors Open? Looks really neat! Glad it has been restored.
Yes, I could only come for one day and I packed in as much as I could! This was high on my list. The theatre itself is not that grand, but it was sentimental. And we got inside the projection room, which was really cool!
Heartwarming. The will of a community in cooperation can overcome anything, accomplish anything.
a 100 years old---kudos to the volunteers who worked on this landmark.
Nice reno job... and your post-processing is perfect for the building. I wonder who paid for the materials to renovate it and who benefits from running the place today?
@Francisca, the materials were donated (some from the local hardware store) and it is now a not-for-profit cinema. this is truly a community effort.
Another gem from the past.
That's so very terrific!
Beautiful sign and theater!
the design on the side of the seat is so beautiful
