O is for Ontario Place

Ontario Place is an adventure park that sits out in Lake Ontario near the
Canadian National Exhibition grounds.
It will soon get a complete overhaul and redesign to bring it up to date.
Here we have the main entrance as it stands today.

golden gate

Dubbed Hamilton's Golden Gate Bridge, this pedestrian walkway crosses over the 12 lane QEW highway and the wetlands of Red Hill Creek to link the industrial east end to the waterfront. It is made of steel and the red colour is the same tint that is used on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

dazzling light

that hangs on everything,
It covers everything below
like a white dove's brooding wing,
a landscape to the aching sight,
a vast expanse of dazzling light

carriage town

One of the murals in Flint Michigan
In the latter half of the 19th century, Flint became a lumber center, and at the turn of the 20th century the revenue and infrastructure from lumbering funded the establishment of the local carriage making industry. As horse-drawn carriages gave way to the automobiles, Flint became a major player in the nascent auto industry. (wikipedia)
Then again, I also like the "Soggy Bottom" sign!

crumbling

At the far end of this bridge, and on the other side, was last week's bridge post
This one is "use at your own risk" and closed to vehicles.
In the distance you can see the bridge of the main road.

66th St subway

The subway stations of New York could be a destination in themselves.
I maybe have never been to The Met, but I have seen where it is, and greeted by this (another mosaic!) beauty.

M is for (micro)mosaic

A glass mosaic from the Corning Museum of Glass
original photo above and one with different effects to enhance the mosaic bits (the tiny, tiny mosaic tiles!)
This is a small detail of the micromosaic of the Basilica of San Marco. The whole thing actually measures five by seven feet. It is dated from 1907 and created by E. Cerato.

dam winter bridge

A small bridge over a dam.
It looks like there is a path out by the lake, but I may need to revisit in the summer to check it out again.
The snow will be all gone by now - the temps are a balmy 20C this weekend!!

different swans

Look, more swans....

Contrary to popular opinion, feeding swans (and ducks) bread is a definite no-no. Bread is very bad for these birds, but a healthy corn mixture for feeding enthusiasts can be bought at several locations in town.

Several businesses had decorated swan topiaries which could be voted on for your favourite. This one was in memory of Angela who (along with her eggs) was brutally murdered last year by someone on a drunken bender. Such a senseless killing horrified the city of Stratford.

This one has been tartaned up for the piping in of the swans

feisty swans

The swans were ready to be released onto the Avon River in Stratford Ontario. After being in close quarters in their winter home, they were feeling a bit... erm, frisky.

see also VioletSky for more of the swans trip to the river.

frozen north facing west

the sun rise casts an eerie glow out over the still frozen lake as the shadow recedes

and after a full day of work, the sun sets off another eerie glow as it sets on the horizon.
