One of the smaller murals in Islington celebrating the heritage of Etobicoke in outdoor art.
Designed and painted by John Kuna in 2007, it was painted in the style reminiscent of old coloured postcards and turn of the century paintings.
The plaque beside the mural explains that from 1917 to 1931 the old Guelph Radial Line ran behind this site (where the mural is painted). Forerunners of today's electric streetcars, radial trains were so named because they 'radiated' from the city centre outwards to neighbouring towns and villages.
(there is also a hint of the murals on yesterday's bridge leading into Islington)

I very much like the vintage style of this mural. Well done, John Kuna.
It really does look like an old post card. Too bad these right of ways weren't preserved. We sure could use them now.
This is a really well done mural! The detail is very good - and love the vintage feel!
I like the old-timey look!
I think historical reference type murals like this have more longevity than lots of the modern, more random variety of murals that seem to dominate places.

I bet the locals wish they still had a tram system. I know we do. The irony is that so many cities are recreating the concept under the name "light rail." Good shot of a nostalgic period. Love these historical murals. Thanks for sharing this with us.
They are a great bunch of murals aren't they?
I like this mural very much and I love the style of painting it is done in. It seems to me that all murals should be done this way. It gives tham more of an artistic flair and a more pleasing appearance. Whoever did them was a genius.
Lovely historical mural with great details.
