In India, tiffin means a hot, light meal or snack.
It also refers to these metal containers used to carry prepared food
These great little environmentally friendly stackable stainless steel tins are designed for lunch or picnic boxes but are also ideal for storing coffee, tea, sugar, spices or whatever you like. Each tier fits snuggly on top of each other and secured with a clasp on either side with a separate lid for the top.
The handle clips it all together.

That's not only a lovely device, but also an interesting story to go with it. I didn't know they were so intricately made and so handsome. I would say that one is a collector's item.
Nora: Isn't this one a beauty?! I have always wanted one for myself (though I don't need quite so many containers - they usually come in threes, I think)

I don't know the word tiffin, but the metal stacked lunch packs are standard in China, too. These days they are losing out to styrofoam, and that's a huge pity.

I've never seen one until now although I knew the name. Great shot of a handy utensil!
So many of our sayings came from India - anyone for Tiffin (tea & late afternoon snack). Now I know what tiffins actually look like - great shot.

We have tiffin here in Melbourne also and several places supply offices with the food laden on large tricycles, pedal powered. It's great!
