Yonge Street is a major north-south arterial road in Toronto and continues through Ontario for 1,896 kms. It was listed as the longest continuous street in the world until some government ruling rearranged the highway designations. But in our hearts, it is still a record street. It is the main east-west dividing line for Toronto and other towns immediately to the north.

Brilliant! WHY oh WHY didn't I think of that?
Even out here in the West Yonge street is famous for its length, and other good things. Good choice
does it come to Windsor?
That's an awfully long street. How many house numbers does it have?
Wow! That's amazing! What a terrific choice for the Y Day! Great shot, too! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!
I absolutely love that quirky sign. Thanks for sharing a bit of your world today.
Yes, i love it. maybe i'll see it later this year!

Ann: no, it runs north of Toronto, Windsor is southwest.
Nora: good question. I am not sure about the numbering, but it does get into the 20000 range about 60km north. maybe EG Wow knows?
Roger: this is part of a 'revitilization' project in downtown Toronto (where the street has been a bit seedy for years)
That is a tremendously cool sign - thanks so much for sharing it!
Thanks for commenting on my entry. I like that lovely font of "Yonge" and you captured very well.
Have a wonderful day.

Yup, I knew that! But I've been gone too long to have seen the street sign... I was tempted to say "new" street sign, but it could'a been there for 20 years! :-)
the sign does look rather cool - especially when taken out of context of the busy yonge-dundas area (IMHO)
so artistic. as they say, that's pretty groovy.
I love the lettering of the sign. No need for any further directions, or map, just stop on the same road. Great for people with no sense of direction, I might mean me.
OH! Aren't YOU the clever one to make this sign go double duty? :)) Yes, I'm playing Signs, Signs.
Terrific post, as always! Long yonge... and a nifty artsy sign to show it.
What "yahoo" changed things and made Yonge Street lose its long and lengthy identity? Well, in the hearts of Torontonians, it will be as you said.

I haven't seen that sign or maybe didn't notice it. I'll have to go on a field trip to discover it. Thanks forthat.
That's a beautiful street sign, not many of those!
