I'm absolutely convinced birds have a sort of hive mind. In a split second, can you imagine all these birds lifting off all at once? What a spectacular sight that would be.
How can these fowl keep from freezing? Maybe it i oil in their feathers. They are amazing birds and this shot is amazing. How you managed to be at the right spot at the right time was a stroke of luck. Beautiful presentation.

it is hard to imagine that it is a very cosy spot for sleeping!
Makes me wonder why the geese and ducks don't fly south. :) I'm trying to figure out where you must have been standing when you took this photo.

this is amazing! i didn't know ducks and geese can rest in icy water. lovely capture.
«Louis» is always amazed at how waterfowl survive the cold. It obviously isn't summer in this image!
A welcome contribution to Sunday Bridges.

Great shot!
What time did you got and take these photos? Are they very cold and need to conserve their energy?
Wow, so many of them dotting the water.
Ann: it was around 4pm and now that you mention it, I'm surprised they weren't huddled closer together.
I don't think I've ever seen something like this before! What a cute photo ;-D
Amazing! How can they sleep in icy water?! :-)
