What´s wrong with girl? It´s better than Appliance person or Appliance character. I don´t understand the politically correct concept here. Everything was so much better before, hah hah. :-)
It's a shame they blackened out the word "girl." It was good for nostalgia's sake. Go tell them to fix it back the way it was.
So many connotations here....
but one is the idea of a deliriously happy housewife who has her work made easier by a giddy looking new appliance. We all know better now.
Though yes, one needs a sense of humour about it.

Heh. I think it's cute and "girl" wouldn't offend me at all (in this context at least) People are way too sensitive these days.
Lynn: there was a time I would have been deeply offended --- I've mellowed a lot since then. now I think it is funny to see these things and see how far we've come.
