Brutalism I

The Public Safety Building, 1965

Built with concrete and a limestone cladding which is unfortunately not holding up well with Winnipeg's harsh winters. It is no longer a safe building and is slated for demolition

'P'

First built in 1893 as a Baptist church then in 1938 sold to the Pentecostals, the Calvary Temple grew with a new structure next door while the original Baptist church was used for youth groups and educational sessions.  In 1984 the original was demolished for an even larger educational building, leaving only the bell tower, which is now a designated historic site.

New Iceland

artist Dave Carty, 1999
a tribute to the local Icelandic people, showing Viking explorers, Icelandic ponies, fishermen, traditional dress.
and a special nod to Charlie Thorson who helped create the faces of Bugs Bunny, Elmer  Fudd, and Snow White (who, legend has it, was based on a local waitress)
