I don't know what this old safe is used for now, it sits in a spot outside a food market where one might expect to see an freezer for buying bags of ice.
But, being curious, I looked up J&J Taylor Safeworks, not expecting to find anything useful. I was wrong. Apparently John and James Taylor opened a factory in 1855 producing the first safes in Canada. It has been in continuous operation ever since and still retains the Taylor name though is now part of Chubb-Mosler and Taylor Safes Ltd, an association of three safe companies, which is now the largest security manufacturing company in Canada.

How cool is that that this company is still in business with the same name. I assume that Donna has not had as much success?!
Very impressive history! Perhaps that safe had once been used inside the store, before Donna took over. ;-)
I love this - would love to have it but I bet it is heavy!
Now, this is just too cool. Aren’t you glad you researched it..what a nice piece of history to have in your head. Love the old safe. It has definitely held up well through the years. Great post. genie
I think the safe would make an interesting collectible but, hmmm, where would it fit in my home?
I too thought it looked like the start of a mystery story just standing out there.
very nice detective work on your part.
Very cool looking bank. I still wonder what they keep in there, though. Very rare steaks?
What a grand history, Sanna. I love the print on the safe. It is probably sitting where it is because no one is prepared to pay for the crane necessary to actually move the thing!!
Fantastic sign! The incorporation of the old safe in the sign is so appropriate!
Cool old safe.
I wonder if anybody has tried to open it lately? It would be intersting to see what is inside.
Don't you love to research things like this? It certainly makes for a great photo!
Great sign, there's definitely some history there.
That's pretty amazing! There aren't many places that last that long anymore.
The story. The photograph. The location. Really. VS, you just find the most wonderful things.
sounds like a solid, secure company. great find!
That is pretty cool! And I like the font, too :)
Wow, that is interesting! I'd love to know what they keep inside!
Perhaps if you had opened it, you might have found Donna. After all, she is the hide and go seek champion 1910.
