This Leaping Muskie statue celebrates the area on the St Lawrence River as a top muskellunge (muskie) area.
Muskies will eat anything that fits into their mouth - mostly other fish, but also frogs, ducklings, snakes, muskrats, mice and other small mammals and small birds.
They are known for their strength and their tendency to leap from the water in stunning acrobatic displays.
this awards log goes up to 2000, but the last entry is for 1997. not sure what happened. maybe there is another one inside the building.
Hey, I lived in Kingston, and I live near Delmar now. Interesting document. Great idea.

Even with the help of my dictionary I don't know what that is, a fish statue ?
That's interesting..those muskies sound kind of scary! Thanks for stopping by my "M" entry.
@Gattina, yes it is a giant fish.
It looks big enough to eat humans. I'd keep out of those waters.
I don't think I would want to hood one of those, they look pretty formidable. I wonder how they taste.
that's a scary sized fih
that is a fun sculpture.
that's pretty cool, quite the statue!
I'd stay out of the water with those fish around. I'd be afraid they'd take a bite out of me. Those are some big fish. I'd never heard of them before.
First time that I have heard of this fish! In the statue it looks a little like a leaping dolphin!
I can remember my uncle catching a huge one when i was a kid! It felt bigger than me.
Looks like those fish are huge, powerful and graceful. Are they always catch-and-release, or do people eat them?
Hehe! I guess a lot of people are not familiar with this large fresh-water fish. :)
I believe they are mostly catch and release (or sometimes trophy). I cannot believe they would be tasty at that size!
I've certainly heard of muskies, but have never, ever seen one on a menu!
And I've seen this giant leaping fish in Gananoque, but not the sign.
Wow muskies eat anything huh!! Thanks for the information.
Great entry for M day and for signs! I didn't know this fish! Thanks for the information and thanks for your wonderful shots!
Have a nice and happy day****
I love to photograph these types of monuments when I see them. Thanks for sharing.
These must be REALLY large and ruthless fish. I do not think I would want to be in the water when one came up upon me. They remind me of sharks and dolphins. genie
that's an impressive sculpture! i wonder if muskies are safe for humans.:p
Beautiful sculpture. Cool fish - 69 pounds? WOW.
