M is for (micro)mosaic

A glass mosaic from the Corning Museum of Glass
original photo above and one with different effects to enhance the mosaic bits (the tiny, tiny mosaic tiles!)
This is a small detail of the micromosaic of the Basilica of San Marco. The whole thing actually measures five by seven feet. It is dated from 1907 and created by E. Cerato.

I do have to say that I like the enhanced photo best. Are you sure it doesn't look that in real life? It ought to.

Nora: I think it was more muted, like the first one.

Beautiful mosaic!!! The Celebrity cruise line ship, the Equinox, featured a glass blowing exhibition on the top deck...it was fascinating, and all the proceeds of the sales went to the Corning Museum of Glass...

Impressive, to be sure. It must have taken a long time to create this but it's lovely!

How very beautifully, - it stretches the mind when one thinks of the work involved in creating such a gorgeous mosaic.

Wow! Amazing craftsmanship. And patience and persistance. What steady, and slender fingers, the artist had.

Absolutely gorgeous! I love mosaics. I've always wanted to try to create one, but I'm afraid I just don't have the patience. What a wonderful post for "M" day!

I find mosaics fascinating, this is a beauty. The recreation of the paintings at such a small scale is amazing.

The details in the mosaic are amazing a beautiful piece of art. In answer to your question on my blog, no I did not go on the ferris wheel - too high for me!
