These are divers who breed in the Arctic, but their migration route extends throughout Ontario and parts of Quebec. They spend their winters on the ocean or in large freshwater lakes, which would explain their presence in Lake Ontario.
These are divers who can spend a l-o-n-g time underwater. They are also one of the deepest divers and can plunge up to 60 metres or 200 feet to forage for food.

And they are beautiful! I don't see them in my area, only the occasional stray who wonders away from their normal migragion path.

Wow, I've never seen a duck with such a long tail! That's quite impressive, as is how long they can stay underwater and how deep they can go -- fascinating! The photos are great!
