L is for Lakeshore Road

Lakeshore, or sometimes Lake Shore, Road is the old King’s Hwy #2 running along the shores of Lake Ontario between Toronto and Hamilton. Completed in 1917, it was 18 feet wide and nearly 40 mi (64 km) long and was the first concrete road in Ontario, as well as one of the longest stretches of concrete road between two cities in the world.

The Main Street Bridge in Galt has been covered with a wide variety of knitted fabric made by over 1500 volunteers, most local, but some from as far away as Australia and New Zealand..About 16,000 plastic zip ties hold thousands of knitted and crocheted afghans, scarves, socks, pot holders and hats to the concrete bridge. The installation will be up until Sept 27 when all the pieces will be laundered and donated.

An egret seems to be dancing in Bronte Creek. We checked our guide books and decided this was definitely not a white heron. I have never seen an egret in these parts before and he was pretty far away, so I was thrilled to get this clear a shot of him.
