V is for Viaduct

plaque

The Prince Edward Viaduct is never called by its official name, it is more commonly called The Bloor [Street] Viaduct, or simply, The Viaduct. This is the dividing line between the east end of the city and the downtown area. If you have read Michael Ondaatje’s book, In the Skin of the Lion, this is the bridge that is the background to the story.viaduct

Nice photo. I drove streetcars across the Viaduct. Because the road was wide with no parking, we could really wind up the speed up on them. One day one of the TTC driver's got stopped by a cop with radar. He was doing 90 mph. In those days there were no speed limits on streetcars. There was nothing that the cop do do.

Viaduct? Why a no chicken?
Sorry, I couldn't stop myself. I'm always fascinated by bridges with two (or more) decks, they are very uncommon here...in fact, I'm not sure there is one in Germany at all.

I am sure I have crossed on this viaduct many times. Good V post!

It's really quite elegant, isn't it? I love bridges of all kinds. Thanks for sharing your viaduct.

Andy: you are aging yourself there! I cannot imagine a streetcar going that fast - I wonder if Rob Ford knew about that if he'd change is mind about them?

Jedediah: of course you couldn't! I had forgotten about that one.

You took a nice shot of this bridge, which I have crossed over and under many, many times. :)

These are my favorite kind of posts. Where you learn something about another city and its character.! If I am ever in Toronto again, I'll cross this bridge and say, "this is Violet Sky's bridge."
