L is for Lakeshore Road

Picture 018

Lakeshore, or sometimes Lake Shore, Road is the old King’s Hwy #2 running along the shores of Lake Ontario between Toronto and Hamilton. Completed in 1917, it was 18 feet wide and nearly 40 mi (64 km) long and was the first concrete road in Ontario, as well as one of the longest stretches of concrete road between two cities in the world.

OH! I just learned something new. I didn't know Lakeshore Road was the first concrete road in Ontario. What interesting trivia!

That's a good bit of trivia that I'll probably not remember. I'll remember the name of the road, though.

I wonder if I traveled on this road when I went to Toronto from Windsor?

Ann: I doubt it. you would have taken the 401 - a much, much faster highway!

The sepia tones are perfect for "Old Lakeshore Rd."! Very interesting historically, too.

Your postings always seems to jog my memory of things from my past. I can remember when The Lakeshore used to be a fast route for driving across town. Not any more.

Great photo.
