I had to click on the enlargement to make sure this was a replica and not the real thing. Now that would be scary to meet in a dark alley at night. The botanical gardens started a butterfly house with plants they love and this lets everyone see the eggs they lay and the caterpillar phase and the final butterfly... but I found it a bit sad as they all tried to fly up and through the mesh walls to reach freedom. Outside their relatives flew free.

That's humongous.
WOW ! SO BIG and beautiful colour.
Yikes...he does look like a giant! Very beautiful colors on him!
Oh, my gosh. That's a BIG caterpillar!
I'll assume that it's a make believe caterpillar, but they did a good job replicating it. Except for it's size, it looks real.
And that is only his head shot, Ruth! I agree, Nukke and Sharon, he is a nice shade of green fading into yellow.
Stephanie, this was part of a Monster Bugs exhibit at RBG for the opening of the Atrium. It would have been fun to watch them being inflated, Irene.
Beautiful color, and I love the composition on this photo
Those leg looking things look wicked! Great photo!

Thank you Carol. I thought those tiny legs look like teats, SLMom!
Oh, how sad for the butterflies, srp. You'd think they could be let free once the humans had witnessed their tranformation.
MARVELOUS macro shot ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
