ER for Elizabeth Regina (Queen Mum)

originally designed for the Queen Elizabeth Way, a major highway built in 1930's eventually linking Toronto to the US border.

The originals have mostly disappeared, but reproductions are being made and put up on select bridges and overpasses for respect for the highways heritage.

This reproduction is in Bronte, taken on a beautiful, sunny, spring afternoon yesterday.

Ring-billed Gull

Looking pretty innocuous and innocent here, these are the thieving gulls who love to live amongst us in Southern Ontario. Few other birds have adapted to city life as well as these pesky gulls. They are very tolerant of humans, though show their displeasure of our vehicles every chance they get.

They love the litter we produce, eating just about anything and can be seen swarming any park, beach, golf course, parking lot or patio for our generous handouts.

Distinguishing features are their yellow legs, yellow eyes and a dark ring around a yellow beak.
