So typical in any state or country - the politics and policies of governments and councils are a law unto themselves.

Thanks so much for contributing, Denise ABC Team

I did a Google search on it. Apparently it's also $6 million over budget. Delays and over budget are trade marks of a government job. To bad for the tax payers.

more like an abandoned one to me,
anyway the bird will be very happy if it stays that way.

How sad that a home for the birds has cost so much!

How sad, but I'm sure the birds are happy with their new and overpriced home.

It's too bad that an important project like this gets snowed under by all sorts of problems. I'm sure the people get discouraged about waiting for this pier to get finished. I assume it's their tax money that's being wasted on it or is it a private initiative?

@Nora: oh no, it is our tax money that is paying for this. it was decided that it would actually cost more to abandon the project and dismantle it, so with millions more dollars a new contractor will be working on getting it completed by 2013.

Looks like it'll be a long lasting pier once it's finished. :)
