Groceries at the Gardens

The new Loblaws store at Maple Leaf Gardens is now open. Never has so much fanfare and excitement been seen for a supermarket!
All is sunny and bright again at Church and Carlton in Toronto.

I heard about this. Can't believe there is so much excitement for a supermarket! I think I'll have to visit it though. ;)

It's a long story...

for those not familiar Maple Leaf Gardens used to be a hockey arena. (Think Madison Square Gardens, but in Toronto). The team moved to a newer shinier location about 12 years ago and this 'shrine' has sat empty until yesterday.

I was down on Grenville St twice yesterday and thought of walking over but I heard the crowds were huge so I didn't. I saw on the news that they have the old centre ice marked in the middle of the store floor - cool!

I am heading back tomorrow afternoon to go inside if either of you would like to join me

Great billboard! I haven't been there yet either. Looks very nice from what I saw on TV.

Wow! That is some sign! You people take your food almost as seriously as we do in Melbourne! ;-)

Wow, that really wants to make you have a look there, ain't it:)

Ha! I think Loblaws was mighty smart!

It looks almost too intimidating to go inside and grocery shop.

If that sign doesn't draw attention, nothing will. I am *for* any business that re-uses/renovates a previous structure as opposed to building new. Seems there is so much waste in that regard (where I live).

Thanks for your visit and comment on my sign. =)

I doubt if the food will be any better than at any other Loblaws! Nice blue sky.

From what I have seen on the news this Loblaws is one of a kind.

Hi there - nice picture - but I'm not really sure it's good that people can get so excited about a super-market!

Well, it takes all sorts I suppose.

It is more the history of the building - it holds a special place in people's hearts and that is where the excitement comes from. The Weston family have made the most of that.

I will post more about this when I go to see the inside later today.

I had missed this earlier -- thanks for giving the link on your later post with the great shopping cart picture. We love to visit different kind of grocery stores and this one MUST be worth a visit.
