woody woodpecker
I passed by this pub during a walking break on my way home from Ottawa and then later, by a perhaps not so great co-incidence, though it seemed so at the time, I saw this guy down by the river.
Even though I did not stop at the pub for a 'quick half' I could not get a non-blurry shot of this pileated woodpecker.

You can count on one hand the number of Pileated Woodpeckers that I have seen in my lifetime. Your sign reminded me that many times I have knocked on my wooden head to prevent bad luck.
@Andy: this was my first!
very cool. and you even got the real one facing the same direction!
Wow - I have only ever seen one of these guys before! It must be kismet that you saw him after taking the pic of the sign.
Oh my goodness...you have to love the serendipity. And even the background in the real bird's photo matches the background on the sign...wonderful captures! That would certainly have made my day...:)
How wonderful to have seen the sign and the bird too! We have several nesting pairs around here, but mostly I only hear them or see them at a distance. Only a few times have they come close enough for a photo.
That is a coincidence...It's like he posed for you.
what a serendipitous moment. woody is a handsome dude.
They actually look like the same bird!
Serendipity at its best!
That was meant to be, wasn't it? I wonder if you can help those things along, by photographing more odd things that come your way? Help fate along, I mean. Do you have more coincidences in your life like this that are noteworthy?
That is TOOO great! Maybe you should have stopped for a quick one first ;>) (Actually, I think the shot is fine and I'd be thrilled if I'd gotten it!).
Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of serendipity.
That's great, you made me laugh. I love stuff like this.
They are both so cute, and they really look exactly the same! :-) Coincidence or not, great shots!
LOve your piloted woodpecker, and I always love real pub signs. They are the vest. We spotted a piloted woodpecker our back of our house in the woods and were so excited....and we have never seen him again. Hope he comes back.
Wow that is pretty pileated woodpecker. Have not seen than in person. Happy weekend!
