MellowYellowBadge

Ring-billed Gull

Looking pretty innocuous and innocent here, these are the thieving gulls who love to live amongst us in Southern Ontario. Few other birds have adapted to city life as well as these pesky gulls. They are very tolerant of humans, though show their displeasure of our vehicles every chance they get.

They love the litter we produce, eating just about anything and can be seen swarming any park, beach, golf course, parking lot or patio for our generous handouts.

Distinguishing features are their yellow legs, yellow eyes and a dark ring around a yellow beak.

Very nice yellows you've found. But those gulls can be a real menace. Saw once one took food from kids hands in the marketplace. Big cry due it. But great pic, never the less. Happy MYM!

I also envy people who can get such neat shots. My little camera doesn't have a great zoom on it. Wonderul shots Violet. =)

Kathy: Thank you. I do love my zoom! It's not much, but helps.

They're awfully pesky birds, aren't they. We even get them up here on the river. They aren't scared of anybody and love any kind of food.

Good mellow yellow, though.

"thieving" - made me laugh

a gull once took a hotdog right out of my son's hand
I think he's still traumatized

Bryan: they have lots to choose from!

Pete: thanks, they were co-operative.

ladyBanana: thank you for cvisiting and saying so.

VioletSky said...

Gossamer: I probably would have ignored them if it weren't for their yellow!

EarthtoHolly: totally unconcerned about humans.

Sherrie: this is your chance to look at them in a non-pesky light!

Dianne: I've seen them do that - also geese are pretty brazen that way with junk food.

i forgot to do my mellow yellow monday!! =( Thanks for visiting my blog. You were the first to mention how cheap that fiestaware was - The green cup and saucer - selling on ebay for about $20 or $30? I paid 79 cents each. =) You can come shopping w/ me anytime. Canada to Oklahoma - 4,000 miles??

DeanDean: I'm glad you stopped by, too. And it'd be great to see your drawing of them.

Gwen: my ring-around-the-tub isn't as permanent!
