Riverdale Farm
This working farm In the heart of urban Toronto near the Don River is open year round and is free to all. There are animals and gardens, a shop and kitchen and classes and from May to October, a market.
But it has been under threat of closure in a sad and convoluted tale of a new mayor seeking to save money no matter what is destroyed in the process.
For more information about this farm you can check out Friends of Riverdale Farm and to see archival photos visit this siteTuesday, September 20, 2011
J is for jailhouse
This is one tiny jailhouse!
This old jail, now a bar, in Port Dalhousie may be the smallest one in Ontario, though there are at least two others that lay claim to that title.

passing storm
Til The Storm Passes By
In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place.
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

H is for HMSC HAIDA
HMCS Haida is the last remaining of the 27 Tribal Class destroyers built for the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy between 1937 and 1945.
The ship operated with the Atlantic Fleet in the post-war years and in 1950 she was taken out of service for modernization and conversion to an Anti-Submarine escort.
After Korea, the ship served in the Canadian Atlantic Fleet working mostly with NATO forces until she was paid-off and taken out of service in 1963.
At the beginning of August 1965, she opened to tourists - a naval museum, maritime memorial and Sea Cadet training ship.
In 2003, she was towed to Hamilton Harbour where the 377' ship continues as a National Historic Site.
