cmog

Yes, I still have dozens of photos from my trip to Corning NY last year....
this is the Frederick Carder Building which houses the most gorgeous pieces of Steuben glass
The CMoG logo has the 'o' in the shape of the firing oven with the glass inserted and the doors open

yellow

I never saw an ugly thing in my life:
for let the form of an object be what it may
- light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful.

Pottery Road

Three views of the original Pottery Road bridge, looking north from the Bayview extension in Toronto.

...except I was playing around with Picnik and now don't remember what I used for each, though Lomo-ish, Orton-ish, Holga-ish and posterize and film grain were involved.

a gentle morn

with the rain softly falling on the far shore, these ducks enjoy the cool morning,
all eight of them just sat there, gently floating,
ignoring the honks and screeches from the other geese and gulls

R is for railway cars

It leaves the city every day about five o'clock in the evening, the train for Mariposa.
Why,  you knew that train at one time better, I suppose, than any other single thing in the city, and loved it too for the little town in the sunshine that it ran to.

The Ossawippi Express Dining Cars (sadly, now closed) is made up of several attached
old railway cars and named for Stephen Leacock's
The Train to Mariposa in Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town that included the story of the train that left the big city every day for the little town of Mariposa.

Perished

Until this Celtic Cross was erected in 1998 in a newly named An Gorta Mor Park in Kingston Ontario, there were no memorials to acknowledge the 1,500 who perished in Kingston after escaping the Great Irish Famine. Across the water is the wind farm of Wolfe Island where thousands of birds perish annually.

Royal Arch

Every city probably has a Chinatown, some better and bigger than others.
but not many have as massive and royal a gateway arch the new one over Somerset St in Ottawa
"It's the royal style arch and only  the capital city is entitled"

orange feet crushing...

NDP = New Ducks in Parliament
"That heated pond is nice, but not great for swimming. Alexandrine, do you know where we are going?"
"We're not here to swim, Matthew. C'mon, that building looks familiar, let's rock this party"

woody woodpecker

I passed by this pub during a walking break on my way home from Ottawa and then later, by a perhaps not so great co-incidence, though it seemed so at the time, I saw this guy down by the river.

Even though I did not stop at the pub for a 'quick half' I could not get a non-blurry shot of this pileated woodpecker.

P is for Peace Tower on Parliament Hill

The view from the top of the Peace Tower in Parliament Hill in Ottawa in pelting rain.
A closer look at the clock in the Peace Tower taken on an earlier, equally wet miserable day. The windows directly beneath the clock are the observation deck from where the top two photos were taken.
