The Main Street Bridge in Galt has been covered with a wide variety of knitted fabric made by over 1500 volunteers, most local, but some from as far away as Australia and New Zealand..About 16,000 plastic zip ties hold thousands of knitted and crocheted afghans, scarves, socks, pot holders and hats to the concrete bridge. The installation will be up until Sept 27 when all the pieces will be laundered and donated.

This is an art installation to celebrate the history of the textile industry in the area.
I have written more about this on my other blog, Violet Sky.
That's fun, but I might crash my car being too busy looking at the colours!
There were a few cars that slowed, or completely stopped, to have a look, which must have been annoying to those behind who just wanted to get home!

as far as I know, most will be donated to people in need. some pieces will be stitched together to make more afghans. some will be auctioned off and the proceeds going back into the arts.
