Skyway

skyway - SV

Here we have a view of the Skyway Bridge that is beside the lift bridge from last week’s view. For those who like such things: built in 1958, the centre is 120’ high and from end to end it is just shy of 8,400’ .

I always get nervous driving over that bridge. I wish they would put taller barriers on the edges so I can't see the water when I drive on it.

Interesting view again. Massive structure.

Franje: I understand! It took me years to stop clenching my fingers on the steering wheel every time I crossed over it.

Indrani: It does dominate the skyline!

Interesting shape, this bridge. I'm only sorry to see the hydro (electrical) towers beside it.

Fransisca: I know, they are annoying, but they are all along the beach strip and unavoidable.

This is one "heavy duty" bridge! At 8,400', it is rather long, too. It is interesting to see this after the lift bridge post last week.

«Louis» thanks you for your contributions to the Sunday Bridges series.

Hey, I know that bridge well. I used to feel scared driving over it but I've gotten used to it...unless it's windy and there appear to be a few trucks driving too fast.

That too is a lovely bridge. Looks like they know how to build them up there in your country.

Louis: well it does carry a lot of traffic, about 60,000 a day.

JBar: it is beloved by the two cities it connects,

Elisa: thanks

EG: I like the warning signs of high winds, so I can avoid it and take the lift bridge!

Sallie: well, let's hope so! I hate to hear stories of crumbling bridges.

Love that webby arch in the middle!

kaori: yeah, it would be rather plain and boring without it!

I like all of the greenery underneath, it really adds to the scene, a nice contrast.
