tulips Ottawa tulips Ottawa

It is Tulip Festival season in Ottawa.

As a thank you gift from [then] Princess Juliana of The Netherlands for Canada’s help in giving the Royal Family refuge during the occupation of Holland in the Second World War, 100,00 tulips were sent to Ottawa. The tradition continues every year and now there are over 3 million tulips around the city.

What gorgeous tulips! Love the colors! And your photos are terrific! Love seeing the drops of dew/rain/water of whatever kind on the flowers in the second pic! Hope you have a wonderful week!

Great pictures of the tulips. They are beautiful. We have a special bond with Canada also because one of our princesses was born in Ottawa.

Yes. I should have mentioned that while Princess Juliana was in Ottawa, her youngest daughter, Margriet, was born in Ottawa. The hospital room was declared to be Dutch so that she wouldn't have to deal with the pesky dual citizenship issue. And the Dutch flag was flown from the Parliament Buildings that day. Princess Margriet quite possibly visits more than our own royals.

I often think of tulips as the happiest and proudest flower. I'm glad to be associated with it.

Even after Queen Juliana died 6 years ago, Queen Beatrix decided to continue gifting us with more tulips every year.
