doorway

many of the doorways in central Amsterdam had tiles.
not all featured scenes of nature as this doorway, however.

It looks very much like the art work I used to see in children's books many decades ago.

These are very beautiful, some doorways have indeed those tiles with images, but this one I have never seen before. Well spotted!

Its really in the tradition to use painted tiles in a building since around the 17th century. First only as delft blue but around 1880 until now in all kind of colors. Nice find.

So innocent and sweet...maybe the lamb might not think so when it sees the wolf!

I really do enjoy that sort of adornment of doorways and places of urban life in general. I'm sure such things make us just that little bit happier in our environment.

Quite enchanting and maybe a little tense. Run little lamb! Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

O my, you saw something I haven't while I was there for my painting shows last year! And these are preserved nicely! Do you remember in which neighborhood?

Jeannette: it was in the Museumkwartier Zuid.
