Red uniforms were worn so that 'friend or foe' could be easily identified with the dense smoke from the muskets and cannon fire.
The drums were an important part of the battlefield communications systems with various drum rolls signaling the different commands from officers to the troops.

turquoise and pink
I am not sure what this pink mural between these upper storey windows found in Seillans is meant to be.
the numbers don't correspond to months or hours and the space between the 13 and 14 is so much larger than all the others, with the 15 being the only number at an arrow.
below is the whole house with a little HDR.
one of my pet peeves is window shutters as decoration - these at least are useful

quaint
the water may not be potable in this fountain in a restaurant square in the town of Seillans in Provence,
but it was good enough to keep the wine cool
