Monday Mural

The Welland Club

another John Hood mural

depicting the professional club in 1920 with the Union Jack flying and straw hatted men at lawn bowling.

being curious, I had to get a closer look of the strange wooden structure...
it seemed to be an abandoned outdoor patio
here is a view of the rest of the building that used to be a restaurant.

It's interesting how the shacks lend a trompe l'oeil effect to the mural. Much like Julie's mural this week, yours appears to be based on a historical photo. People honoring their history comes across in this mural. Thank you for continuing to participate in Monday Mural.

Oh, how interesting! The sharply sloped rooftops on that little wooden structure right up against the mural is really a striking combination.
Great find!

You should wish that there was such a house there for real. It would make the neigbourhood much nicer. Beautiful painted.

Another great mural that gives us a look at our past.

At first, I thought the shacks were part of the mural! Then I wondered how they painted that beautiful scene with the shacks in front of it...amazing talents are represented in these Monday Murals!

Now why oh why did that restaurant fail? It looks like the sort of thing that would succeed around my neighbourhood. The shacks are delightful, as is the raised platform. And to have that mural as a backdrop is but the icing on the cake.

Pretty rum attempt at a Union Jack, I say.

The feeling of the past is all over the mural - the genteel look of a class and time long gone. The shame is that the restaurant is closed, as the mural seems reason we may have dined there in the past...

I wasn't sure for a minute where the mural left off and reality began. Nice pictures!

I love the wooden shack against that mural!

What a great contrast in the mural and old wood building.

I'm glad you saw behind the shack to capture the mural.
