The Valley Inn Bridge over Grindstone Creek. This marks the boundary between the cities of Hamilton and Burlington. It was recently closed to vehicles though a plan to tear it down was scrapped and it remains open for cyclists and pedestrians.

A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. ~ Thoreau

"If you foolishly ignore beauty

you will soon find yourself without it.

But if you invest in beauty

it will remain with you all the days of your life."

tulips Ottawa tulips Ottawa

It is Tulip Festival season in Ottawa.

As a thank you gift from [then] Princess Juliana of The Netherlands for Canada’s help in giving the Royal Family refuge during the occupation of Holland in the Second World War, 100,00 tulips were sent to Ottawa. The tradition continues every year and now there are over 3 million tulips around the city.

St Nicholas inside

It was Doors Open in Hamilton, giving an opportunity to visit St Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. Built in the Serbo-Byzantine style, this gorgeous building has stood on this spot since 1974. Thirty years later, the frescoes that adorn the walls and ceiling were painted by Fr Jurewicz.

St Nicholas interior detail

It took him three years, of painstaking detailed painting, layer upon layer, that culminates in this rich tapestry of images of biblical stores, feasts of the church and the lives of Christ, the Virgin Mary and many, many saints.
